History

Founded in 1996 as a group of friends pulled in by Malc., who had booked the hall but didn't have a band (he did have a persuasive manner, incriminating photos, etc.), to help out at a couple of Ceilidhs for Lismore Rugby Club in Edinburgh, in which he is involved.

The band gelled, enjoyed the experience, got asked to play at other events, and as they say the rest is history. That's also how the name and crest came about, the Rugby Club was founded in 1901, not the band.

It has since evolved into its current format. The members are still friends, or at least that was the vote at the last gig, and the band is fortunate that in spite of its ad hoc beginnings, it has in its lineup top rank musicians, who play for dancing, be it fiddle, accordion or drums (listen to those tom-toms in the Eightsome Reel). While our focus is on music to dance to, we also play concert sets at accordion clubs etc. All the musical arrangements are by Morag and Alison, while Ian decides on which pots and pans to bash for each tune. Our choice of music ranges from contemporary tunes by Freeland Barbour, Alison of the band, and others, to traditional tunes, pulled from wherever we find them. We have provided a series of MP3 clips on the website to give you a taste of the band sound. Our first album is sold out, but our new album (released February 2006) is now available for sale. Visit our CDs page for more information.

News - Radio Airplay

If you listen to traditional music on the radio, you may have heard some tracks from our new CD - "The Lismore Hop" which was released in March. For more information including where to get your hands on a copy, go to the recordings page.

So far, our music has been heard on the West Sound Ceilidh, "All Scottish" on Moray Firth Radio, and on Internet Radio. Fine programmes they are too.
