::band equipment::

The band own and carry as required, enough equipment to cover venues from the largest halls to the smalles function suite. We select from the following, to suit the venue.

On the output side:

We have recently bought a new Nexo FS8 high pressure speaker and amp system. It has two combined mid and high units plus a sub base unit. These, combined with the Nexo amp and its built in crossover, give a powerful crisp clear sound, and have enabled us to take our sound quality to a new level.

Previously we used (and still keep as standby) two Yamaha power amps, an active crossover, driving two Yamaha bass cabinets and up to four Yamaha combined mid and top units.

We also use a digital equaliser, and a digital effects unit.

On stage we use two active Yamaha monitors, plus if necessary a couple of ordinary monitors fed through an Inkel amp.

On the input side:

For the fiddles, whistle and mandolin we use AKG condenser mikes. For the drums we have a bass drum mike, individual drum mikes for the snare and tom toms, plus an overhead mike for the cymbals. The accordions both have internal mikes, and we use a Shure radio mike for calling.

All of the above feed through a 16 channel mixing unit.

Instruments:

Stewart plays an Elka accordion and Morag a Bugari. Alison plays a fiddle of French origin, and a pear wood German recorder. Malc plays a fiddle of dubious origin, sort of glued together, and a modern mandolin made in Inverness. Ian plays a Yamaha YD drum kit or a smaller Mapex Voyager kit (depending on the size of the venue) with a Mapex Black Panther snare drum and mixture of Sabian, Paiste and Stagg cymbals.

Other:

The van is a blue Ford Transit with four wheels and a big scrape on the roof where Malc underestimated the height of a car park barrier at a hotel in Edinburgh.
